Do your polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) symptoms keep returning?
You are not alone. The NEXUS | PMR Study is a clinical research study for adults 50 and older with relapsing polymyalgia rheumatica.
What is the Purpose of the NEXUS | PMR Study?
This study measures the effectiveness of an investigational medicine, given in conjunction with a steroid tapering plan, on reducing PMR symptoms like pain and stiffness.
Can I Participate?
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:
Are 50 years of age or older
Are currently taking prednisone
Are diagnosed with PMR and have had at least one symptom flare in the past 12 weeks while trying to lower your prednisone dose
Have not been diagnosed with giant cell arteritis (GCA), and do not have rheumatoid arthritis or certain other conditions that cause inflammation
Other eligibility criteria apply and will be evaluated by a study doctor.
Why Should I Join the NEXUS | PMR Study?
By enrolling in this study, you may receive:
Access to physicians with experience managing PMR for study-related care while you are in the study.
Travel and accommodation support for study visits
The investigational medication at no cost to you.
Your participation may support the advancement of an investigational medication for individuals with PMR.
This study evaluates whether an investigational medication combined with a steroid-tapering plan may help keep PMR symptoms from coming back as steroids are slowly lowered and stopped, compared with a steroid taper alone, in adults whose PMR has relapsed.
For Loved Ones
Care partners play an important role in decision-making. If you are supporting a family member or friend, this information is for you, too.
You can complete the questionnaire for the study on their behalf by clicking the button below. You have the option to either enter the patient's information or your own contact information. Please obtain approval from your loved one prior to entering their information.
Patients will be included in all study participation conversations with optional support from their loved ones.
What Should I Know About This Study?
The investigational medicine is given as an injection under the skin during study visits.
One in three participants will receive a placebo (that contains no active ingredients), which is also an injection.
Participants who are eligible may continue into an optional extension period after the first part of the study. During the extension, all participants receive the investigational medicine.
Study-related procedures and the investigational medication will be provided to you at no cost.
What Should I Expect?
  • This questionnaire will ask for your contact information and a few questions about you or your loved one’s medical history to determine eligibility.
  • Then, you can select a time for a short phone call with PatientWing. Submitting the questionnaire is voluntary and does not require a commitment to participate in the study.
Fill Out The Questionnaire
  • PatientWing is partnering with the study sponsor to help identify potential individuals who may be interested in the NEXUS | PMR study.
  • You will take part in a short call to answer additional questions about your medical history, and PatientWing will help collect your medical records.
Get Started
  • After your conversation with PatientWing, you will meet the research team who will review your medical records.
  • The research team will schedule a screening visit, if appropriate.
  • The research team will provide more information during your conversations with them. No question is a bad question, so please share your concerns with the team.
Reasonable expenses, such as travel and parking, may be reimbursed.
See If I Qualify
  • After you have completed the screening period, the research team will notify you about your eligibility.
  • If you are enrolled in the study, you should expect the following:
    • Study participation lasts approximately 15 months.
  • You will visit the study site every 2 weeks for the first month, then about every 4 weeks. The main study involves 17 visits in total, including screening and a follow up visit approximately 12 weeks after the last dose of study medication.
Reasonable expenses, such as travel and parking, may be reimbursed.
Get Started
This study includes an optional open-label extension for eligible participants. Open-label means the placebo is removed, and both you and the study team know you’re receiving the investigational medication. The OLE is approximately 6 months and includes 8 visits to the research site plus a follow up visit approximately 12 weeks after the last dose of study medication.
Reasonable expenses, such as travel and parking, may be reimbursed.

About Polymyalgia
Rheumatica (PMR)
PMR is an inflammatory condition where the immune system causes pain and stiffness, primarily in the muscles around the shoulders, neck, and hips. It typically develops quickly and mainly affects adults over 50.
PMR is mainly treated with steroids, such as prednisone, to lower swelling and ease symptoms. Many people need steroids for a long time. Symptoms often come back (flare) when the dose is lowered. Additionally, long-term steroid use carries risks of significant side effects.
The NEXUS | PMR study evaluates whether an investigational medication combined with a steroid-tapering plan may help keep PMR symptoms from coming back as steroids are slowly lowered and stopped, compared with a steroid taper alone, in adults whose PMR has relapsed.
